MBZIRC - PROJECT AFFORESTATION

Developed planting payload for DJI M600 Pro as part of Afforestation using cutting edge technology. The technology is used in any geographical area (Desert to help lower carbon emissions and ultimately, combat climate change through cutting-edge drone technology) pneumatic system allows fulfilling objectives at any wind speed.

Methodology

  • OBJECTIVE

  • CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

  • SYSTEM LEVEL DESIGN

  • MODELLING

  • PROTOTYPING

  • TESTING

Planting Payload: Rev – 01
Stage – 01

1. Payload Support Frame

The frame is attached to a DJI drone with thumbscrews.

Stage – 02

2. Seed Container

Seed container is 3D printed and attached to support frame

Stage – 03

3.  Firing Mechanism

The firing mechanism consists of the vision system, liner nozzle guide, compressed gas (CO2), once the signal is received from the drone, the vision sensor will verify the presence of the seed in the injection slot, after verification the servo is triggered to push the seed forward to 30cm out of the slot and finally, the solenoid is triggered forcing the seed to the ground.

Inline regulator is required to reduce the pressure to 1Mpa.

Electrical wiring

All the electronic components are wired with Arduino and its subsystems as shown in the figure.

Things to be accounted

  • Communication to DJI M600 with API to the micro controller.

  • Identifying the Inline regulator for specific compressed air pressure.

  • Design of detent.

  • Fabrication and multiple testing & Validation.

  • PCB design to keep all components on a single board.

Market Analysis

Payload Design suggestion

An idea inspired by the tennis boll thrower mechanism

  • Simple mechanism with minimum pressure.

  • Low cost, silent operation.

  • A high RPM motor (BLDC) gives a better output force.

  • CO2 refilling is not required.

  • Silent operation.

  • In house multi rotor drone design (Cost can but cut by 1/3)

Cons

  1. Finding the right motor.

  2. Power consumption

  3. Field test & Verification are required for the validation of torque.
